Words That You Can't Spell

Postby ECO » Sun Jul 26, 2009 2:17 pm

Do you have any words that no matter how hard you try to remember how to spell them correctly you fail and leave it up to atuo-spelling to correct them?

How about any words that you don't even come close enough for auto-spelling to give a suggestion?

There are too many! Not that i dont trust spell check... just to be safe i add the Dictionary to my menu bar.
Somtimes i really don't feel like checking, so i just let slide. Ooh well we all can't be perfect.

I can't spell enoff <------- that's how my brain spells it. Correction-----> enough, each time i had to go to spell check, and it's spell the same as it was the last Million times i check. If only i can remember. :-)

I have an English degree and have worked as an editor for the past 25+ years, but I still have to resort to my dictionary constantly for correct spellings of words, at work and at home. One word I always have to look up is "camaraderie." I don't know if that's the correct spelling, and I'm too "relaxed" at the moment to trudge down the hallway to my bookcase to check the spelling in my Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, but that's just one example. There're medical terms that I see over and over in the research reports I edit at work, but that every time I have to look up in Dorland's Medical Dictionary or another of the usual medical dictionaries for the correct spelling.

I think Mark Twain had the right idea: "People who know how spell a word only one way lack imagination."

Another word I frequently misspell is "politician"...it sometimes comes out as "c-o-r-r-u-p-t b-o-m-b-o-h-o-l-e."

I spell everything correctly! :neener: LOL

Tinks, from what I understand the word DEFINATELY is acceptable either way. I think the American spelling is definItely, while the "european" spelling is definAtely...

The way I see it... The word is from the word DEFINATE and not DEFINITE, so it 'should' be spelt definAtely...

Ok carry on... LOL LOL :dreads: :roulette:

By the way... the word COLOUR is supposed to have a U, as does Honour, Flavour etc... It's just the American's once again who chose to make up their own spelling for some words...

Blessings and respect.
