Your largest phone bill while in Jamaica?

Postby ECO » Thu Sep 17, 2009 3:00 pm

Over the past year or so I've heard some horror stories about tourist going to Jamaica and using their cell phones from home and then getting a bill that shocks them. Over the past month I've seen some pretty high ones from people with Iphones or Blackberries that connect 100's of times a day to check for e-mail if they are not turned off.

So, what is your largest phone bill while on vacation in Jamaica?

My first one was under $5.00 US since I only called and left two messages in the course of a week. This spring I got a Digicel card and got a $500 JMD credit and I never used all of it. Weird since I called a bunch of times and was texting several times a day.

This link is for a list of retailers in Mobay http://www.digiceljamaica.com/en/retail ... ontego+bay they have places all over Jamaica. If I'm not mistaken I think they have Digicel places in the states as well but I'm not sure if they can create a sim card with a JA #.

*Unlock your cell phone or unlock an old cell phone to save the expense of buying one of Digicel's phones. ATT will unlock them for free as will most of the other networks.

Thanks, these last 30 odd hours are going by very slow, I can't wait to get down there. Jump on a plane and come on down

In my first tour of Jamaica we spent here the one week and the phone bill was approximately $700! It was my largest phone bill. Right now I’m saving my phone bill and use the digicell.
